Working on it...

Working on January's BJP piece, but I'm having a very difficult time working on it.  First, I have had carpal tunnel syndrome for about 20 years.  It has been bothering me so much lately, and my right hand especially has been hurting so much to hold a needle that I can only work for maybe 15 minutes at a time and then I have to stop.  And, on top of that, I have had only ONE cigarette since Thursday.  I have smoked nearly a pack a day for a very long time, and I've gone cold turkey (except for 1/2 of one on Thursday and 1/2 of one cigarette on Friday).  I have not been able to concentrate worth a damn...all I can think about is how much I want to go have a smoke.  I'm thinking that if I go buy a pack that I'll have just one.  But my husband says that will turn into two and then the whole pack and I'll be right back where I was.  Dammit!  I don't want to listen to reason.

So the point of this rant is that between my painful right hand and my nicotine withdrawals, I am not getting very far on my January piece, and I'm having a hard time with concentration and continuity on it.

BUT...

I shall prevail!!!!   I will overcome these obstacles and finish on time!!!!  lol  How's that for positive thinking?

I feel for you on the quitting... and yes the husband is right, one will turn in to the whole pack :( Been there, done that, still need to quit.

Hope the pain in your thumb eases up and your focus improves, sending you good thoughts!

As a former smoker, I know exactly what you are up against.

Here is a thought. Maybe you should put your current page aside and begin one that represents your feelings about breaking the addiction. Maybe if you channel those feelings on a page it will help. (Many of us do pages out of turn). Let me know what you think.

another former smoker here...carol's comments seem like a great idea...I found that keeping my hands busy doing something I was interested in (I did a LOT of drawing when I quit!) helped a bunch!

I too agree with Carol. Former smoker and I too have Carpul Tunnel. Though I can't cross stitch anymore I can bead my journal pieces fine, knit, crochet, paint....I don't know why but I'm glad I can still enjoy my crafts.

Best of luck to you on your quitting!

thank you everyone for being encouraging. i sure do need it! and i've been thinking about how to journal this, but my creativity has stopped. i'm going to start with just thinking about colors, then maybe some shapes and hopefully an idea will spring from that. which leads me to an idea about a post...

I have a moist beaded pad that I put in the microwave, then I wrap it around my wrist and hand. Generally it takes about 10-15 minutes and my wrist and hand feel a lot better.

The other thing I use is I have a "wax melting pot" from Pollenex, I place my hand & wrist in the wax, then wrap with plastic bag, towel, do this for 10-15 minutes.

My wrist and hand always feel relaxed, refreshed and ready to bead. The beading and flexing of the wrist I would hope keep the wrist comfortable.

Just know that you are NOT alone!!
