This was my first time doing peyote stitch around the focal bead. I usually use tall stacks, so that was a first. Also, it was my first time using the picot stitch to sew the front and back together. So this was a journey in firsts for me! Which is why I'm calling this bracelet "Journeys".
I liked this piece because it is not symmetrical and has interesting things to look at. What are your opinions?
The other issue for me was size. I used myself as a dummy for sizing, which probably isn't a good idea. I'm a big girl. Whereas my wrist is only 6.5", this bracelet measures 2 1/4" wide, which means it's going up my arm. That's where the problem came in. It fits a little loose on me, but it is 10" long!!! I see bracelets that are 7" on average, which would fit just my wrist, but being so wide I had an issue. What are the standards for bracelets? My daughter is average with skinny wrists. She can fit it closed over her hand and it fits very loose on her.
I really enjoyed making this cuff, so thank you, Carol, for making my mind up for me! I would like to make more, but I would really like to hear your feedback, kudos and criticisms on what I did right and what I did wrong. Be honest!!!

Well Lisa, if this is your FIRST cuff then I must venture forth to say, you have a very glorious road of cuff-ness ahead of you, if you so choose!
But more than that I'd like to tell you that I think you are a **natural** with your new-found life with beads. I can't define exactly what I mean by that. I guess what I can say is that it feels like you have a certain sensitivity towards your materials, your beads, that propels you down these wonderful paths of discovery...

Your cuff is wonderfull and I am a sucker for earthen greens....only suggestion I could make is if you wnat one to be as wide next time and fit more closely- taper the shape at the ends so it will give you a conical look when closed- Most cuffs are 6 3/4" to 7 1/2"
but really it is what fits. I wear a 6 1/2 bracelet so that is the max I would make my cuffs because they use a metal insert not a clasp of any kind- Either way yours is wonderful, indeed.
thank you for the advice on the size and to do more of a cone than a straight design for the larger cuffs. i didn't even think of that. i'm a little confused on a "metal insert" and not a clasp? can you explain that for me? thanks!

I enjoy looking at all the elements on your first (FIRST!) cuff! If it is too large, lay it flat and put that beauty into a frame, as a bit of ART!

I'm so happy you have challenged yourself to try something new. Sometimes its just best to jump in and figure it out as you go along! You did an awesome job. I always make my jewelry to fit me. This way if no one else likes it enough to buy it, it doesn't go to waste :)

thank you ladies for all the compliments! (i'm blushing! :) sandy, unfortunately my wardrobe is limited to some jeans, sweats and a few t-shirts. how about if i do a series for every outfit i wish i had? lol
my mom saw the cuff and said in a sad puppy dog voice that SHE wanted it. unfortunately, i think it will be too big for her. so, i went out and bought the same package of doodads and will make her another similar. the 2nd one should be better now that i've gone through the pains of my first.

Your choice of colors that match closely balances out the non- symmetrical design. It is a very earthy and warm piece! I can imagine your mom want's to wear it... What fun it will be to make one just for her.
So roll over once again in all the warm enthusiasm your work evokes and then start beading for your mom.
